When Shannon's stepdaughter, M, was ready to start school, it was due to the advocacy of the family that M was able to find a place in the most appropriate system for her. The family had a very good knowledge of how the system worked and were able to effectively advocate for M’s needs. But without this advocacy, her stepdaughter would have ended up in a school that could not properly cater for M’s complex disabilities. Having inside knowledge of systems should not be the predictor of where children end up though, and that's why Shannon has chosen to be involved in Ripples of Change, an organisation that will equip all families with the knowledge and advocacy support they need to get the best outcomes for their family. Shannon is an experienced executive, and is currently the Chief Executive of Siblings Australia. She has previously worked in government, community engagement, and corporate affairs. Shannon is an experienced non-executive director, and holds a PhD from the University of Newcastle. In her free time, she loves to spend time exploring South Australia with her family.
